About the Executive Director

Md. Tarikul Islam is the Executive Director and Co-founder of Green Climate Initiative (GCI), a youth-led environmental organization committed to advancing climate action, sustainability, and community resilience in Bangladesh.

With a strong academic background in Environmental Science from Noakhali Science and Technology University, Mr. Islam brings a research-driven and community-centered approach to environmental leadership. His work focuses on climate change, disaster risk reduction, environmental policy, and sustainable development, particularly in climate-vulnerable coastal and rural regions.

As Executive Director, he leads GCI’s strategic vision, program development, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring that youth voices and grassroots communities remain at the heart of climate solutions. Under his leadership, GCI has launched impactful initiatives in climate education, environmental awareness, plastic pollution reduction, tree plantation, women empowerment, and coastal resilience.

Beyond his organizational role, Mr. Islam is an active environmental researcher, writer, and advocate. He has contributed to national and international research on climate impacts, loss and damage, adaptation strategies, and disaster governance. He is also a regular contributor to leading national newspapers, using media to raise public awareness on critical environmental issues.

Through his leadership, research, and advocacy, Md. Tarikul Islam continues to inspire youth engagement and drive meaningful action toward a more sustainable, climate-resilient future.
